Paul Paray: The Symphonies
The two symphonies of Paul Paray represent the
crystallization of the form of the French
symphony as it emerged from César Franck through
the period just before the Second World War.
Unaffected by modernism and true to the
tradition of his predecessors, Paray fashioned
two large-scale works written five years apart
which constitute a personal testimony of the
composer's esthetic and express his conviction
about the essential goodness, poetry, and humor
of life. This disk presents the first complete
recording of the Second Symphony. The disk also
includes an orchertrated piano miniature En
rêve.
